What Can We Do?

It occured to me this morning that maybe my last blog, while an effective call to action, was less than effective at telling people what they can do.

First, you should know that we do have a lobbyist in Washington.  Lori Lippman Brown is the director of the Secular Coalition for America, which is the national lobby representing the interests of atheists, humanists, agnostics, freethinkers and other nontheistic Americans.  Their website has updates on the political efforts on behalf of freethinkers as well as the all too common attempts by various government entities to blur or tear down the wall of separation.

Get involved, people.  Now.  Today.  Be loud.

I don't think all free thinking progressives are atheist or agnostic. I for one am a very religious, free thinking, progressive, liberal, socialist, radical, leftist.

If you are politically progressive and liberal, then I have no issue with your politics. I am an advocate for atheism, so I tend to focus on atheist progressives, but I suspect that you and I probably share the same goals for political separation of church and state.

That is, theists and atheists alike ought to be working to keep religion out of the government. Progressives, regardless of religious belief, ought to be pressing for a complete overhaul of many of our domestic policies.

Pardon me if I sounded like I was trying to exclude you. You simply weren't part of my target audience, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware that there are many like you. I hope that we are able to work together during this administration.

Thanks for the info, Hamby. I just signed up for the SCA's email alerts. There should be a link on the main RRS page. The RR Squad digs SCA, right? (Funny note: RRS is where I learned about you, but I haven't been there in ages. I found your blog when you commented on Steven Law's blog.)

Anlo, if you believe in a secular government - the seporation of church and state - then the Secular Coalition for America is working for you, too.
